RADIO
In radio I enjoy researching/scripting stories for target audiences, writing interviews, producing and editing for my award-winning radio show Weekly Wildlife Watch. It is a fact-filled nature programme, bringing listeners up to date on all the latest scientific discoveries of the week, contains interviews, controversial issues, animal themed songs and information on local wild/nature events. This has taught me how to create radio packages as well as what makes a good story and how to communicate this to our listeners. Being responsible for contacting organisations and people for interviews allows me to use my networking skills to get the most fascinating stories and insights (recent ones include Simon Reeve, Dr George McGavin, Liz Bonnin, Alex Jones , Andy Kershaw, Dr Chadden Hunter). Basic radio training with the Leeds Student Radio Society, including scripting, recording, MAirList use, interviewing, editing and presenting. I also follow up unsuccessful emails with calls to see whether it is possible to get hold of the interview- this is what I did for my interview with Andy Kershaw!
More recently I have created a new radio programme, the Travel Talk Show. This show is all about adventure, culture, history, food, music, nature and of course - travel! It is the ultimate show guide giving listeners the best advice on how, where and when to travel with weekly themes and reviews on a whole variety of affordable and stunning travel destinations. 'Loving Local Leeds' travel is also a key theme of the show, trying to get our listeners to visit some of Yorkshires greatest and most spectacular locations. 'Where's my luggage?' quizzes allows listeners to get involved as well as 'Who's been where?' involving recent celebrity vacations. There are news updates on worldwide destinations, bargain travel and budgeting tips as well as weekly country themes also including local music playlists, culture, food, events, must-see's, wildlife guide and the Adventurers' Absolute bucket list. Interviews with well-known TV travellers, as well as enthusiastic backpackers will mean that this show incorporates the best of both student and adventurer travel life.
